Deep coloured walls with lining paper. What to do?

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 2.32 PM

Hello experts! I have to redecorate my place but almost all the walls have lining paper and have been painted in a deep red colour. Obviously I want paint the walls white.. I'm a bit confused on how to tackle this and what paint brand to buy. I saw there are white primers on the market that can help to cover coloured walls, but I know little about the use of a primer. Do I need to use it on the lining paper? Is there any risk to wet the paper and therefore come off? Any suggestion on a good product that doesn't cost a fortune? About the paint, again there are several types on the market but most of them come in a small tin for a big price.. I have about 80sqm of walls plus ceilings to paint... I would like to achieve a very smooth finish, the wall is not great so the paint has to do some miracles.. Again I'm not an expert so any suggestion for a paint that offers great coverage, good finish and no chalky finish is greatly appreciated!! Thank you so much for your help!

just give walls a couple of coats matt emulsion that should give you a base to work with then you can finish the walls as you want

Hi there. U can use dulux trade paints for example vinyl matt. They not the cheapest by coverage is brilliant. Sometimes 2 coats are enough. If you want smith finish it's all depend how thick your coats will be and also u need to use short hair roller. Depends of how desperate u are you can sand walls down after every coat except finally one. Regard MH
