asbestos and internal walls 1960s local authority flats
Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.14 PM
Hi, Not sure how to best describe it, but here goes. We are leaseholders of a flat in a 1960s concrete pre-fab/flat roof style local authority block. Recently a council tenant on our landing had builders in doing major work ie knocking several walls down and we were concerned about asbestos exposure. The waste was piled on the landing outside the lifts before being taken down to a skip outside. I noticed that there were pieces of internal walls that had what looked like plaster board (hope to God it wasn't AIB) with cardboard checkerboard dividers inbetween the 2 sheets of plaster board. When I say dividers, I mean the sort of thing you might see in a box to separate fragile items from one another, eg bottles or glass christmas decorations. Our ALM company haven't given us any answers to our requests for info re asbestos and the tenant says her builders told her that there was nowhere in the flat where there could be asbestos. The flats have artex ceilings and we know that there is asbestos in the vent pipes behind the low level extraction system and also elsewhere in the building. Is this just a way of strengthening a wall, or could there have been loose fill insulation in there? I believe this could have been from the wall between the kitchen and living room. Thanks for your help.
