Is there fault on broken boiler?

Anonymous user 15/03/2024 - 2.30 PM

How does the heat exchange work on a gas combo boiler? Is it for the central heating only or is it also activated when you run the hot water taps? Would a lack of water supply cause a washer to fail that exits from the heat exchange unit?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi Duncan Modern combination boilers contain a main heat exchanger, this transfers heat to the primary circuit which then gets pumped round your heating system, if a hot water demand is made a diverter valve shuts off the the heating circuit then pumps the heated water round a plate heat exchanger, the heat transfers into the incoming cold thus delivering hot at your taps. 2 heat exchangers 1 main and a plate heat exchanger.

Hi Duncan, it's complicated! If there is a fault with your gas boiler the only safe and legal way to deal with it is to call in a Gas Safe engineer.

Hi Duncan on most combination boilers you have two heat exchangers one for heating the boiler and a second one for the domestic hot water. Hot Water from the main heat exchanger is diverted via a valve to the domestic heat exchanger to heat the cold water passing through it. With regards to a leak a lot of boiler manufacturers use O rings to seal components so it may be defected o ring that is causing a leak. How ever I would advise you to call in a gas safe register engineer to sort out any problems that you have with your boiler .Regards Dave ward
