How to replace a wet room floor

Anonymous user 1 July 2015 - 8.19 PM

My wet room floor which was fitted 8 years ago is no leaking into the down stair kitchen under it, can the flooring be replaced? The lino stuff that is over the floor has lifted in corner, behind the sink and back of the toilet, when slightly lifted to see under the lino stuff the broads are smelly and damp, would they then have to be replace too?

Hi Tom, With vinyl flooring, it is usually the welds or seams that perish over time. If water has been getting underneath the vinyl (causing the damp smell) then it would probably mean replacing the wooden substrate as well. Unfortunately, there is no quick fix if you want to stop the leak. It is simply a matter of ripping it up and starting again. Wet rooms are fantastic if they are done well and should last for decades but unfortunately, a lot of builders miss out essential steps during the installation process leading to problems down the line. I hope this information is useful to you. Robert Proudfoot.
