A false wall can be erected, filled with acoustic batons and claded with sound proof plasterboards in front of the problem walls unfortunately this method will take up approximately 4" inches the other alternatives are to use rubber backed sound boards which can be rarther costly !!

The last answer was spot on.(sound batt and dot and dab walls). one other method used inside lift shafts in flats is to apply a parge coat which is a sound blocker applied in a 15mm coat then dot and dab walls with 15mm sound block plasterboard with the dot and dab adhesive plus skim coat and you parge coat taken into consideration it should only take up 45mm of space- This method needs to be on solid wall ie brick or block walls.
Thanks Bobby
