Pricing a stone patio

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 2.31 PM

I have a quote to lay 44m3 of 6-sided sawn sandstone, including a step, on top of an existing sound and level brick patio. The quote works out at around £120/m3, ex-VAT excluding the stone which I will supply but including sand and mortar. I think the installer would do a good job, but this seems to me to be a very high rate. Am I wrong?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

£120 a cubed meter(m3) doesn't sound steep to me. It does however for meters square (m2) :) I recently had 22m2 laid for £600 labour only. materials was another £550. Raj sandstone, mulch base, cement ect

For a start paving should not be laid to the top of a brick patio. This should be removed, the base checked and if ok brought up to around 40 to 50mm below finished level. Paving should then be laid on a full bed of mortar. finished level should be at least 150mm below DPC I would expect this price to include everything but then not sure where you are and what shape the patio is or access like.
