How to protect decking
Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.14 PM
Last year I completely cleaned decking and put stain to protect it. Over the winter noticed the weather had removed all the hard work and when pulling up the decking stain manufacturer they sent me replacement stain but advised that the longests any would last would be a year. it doesnt seem like I am actually protecting the decking at all if the protective coating comes off so easily. after I re-stain this year is there something I should be applying on top to prevent this being redone every year? Thanks

Hi
If it's any consolation I have the same problem
I have to power wash all the old stain off every spring and re stain.
I complained to Ronseal last spring and they gave me their new 5 year / one coat. I applied that and guess what I've been doing today
Yep power washing the rubbish off and getting back to bare wood 😟

Stains lean on top of wood.
Oli penetrate.
Wood it's not a bedroom wall. It need to be natural. If you want to have fancy colours of your decking buy composite one. It's 60% of plastic and 40% wood in most cases.
