Conversion of a glass roofed conservatory
Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.14 PM
when a conservatory has a glass roof is it possible that the foundations will be deeper than those for a polycarbonate roof? We are considering converting our conservatory into an extension and wondered if it was possible. It measures 19x13ft. Thanks Claire

Claire,
I don't know where in the UK you are
I'm in Glasgow
The best way forward is to expose the foundations and have them inspected by someone like myself who prepares plans and specifications for building warrants and planing permission.
Hope this helps

The roof never affected the foundation depths on most conservatories, also most companies would put in foundations sufficient to hold up an extension. I always put in a full depth footing on sufficient concrete but there are not many like me

Morning Claire
The majority of conservatories, have a solid enough foundation regardless of what roof that has been put on
It really depends on the make up of what is there, is it a conservatory that was built with planning consent ? or just a portable structure that the previous tenant just put up
Either way , it shouldn`t be hard to turn into a proper extension whether it`s going to be used as a extension for your living room or a kitchen you would just need to take into account pipe runs etc.
Hope this helps
