Bathroom Fitting

Cost of bathroom refit

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 2.31 PM

Hi all, I'm planning on redoing my bathroom (2.72 x 2.46m) which involves incorporating the airing cupboard into a new shower cubicle (the wall between cupboard and existing bath tub is non-load bearing), removing the bath tub, replacing with a corner bath, retiling, replacing the vanity/basin unit, moving the heated towel rail a few inches to the side, and putting in an extractor fan. The plumbing doesn't really need changing as everything will be in the same place as the old fittings (there was a power shower in the bath with pipes in the airing cupboard - new shower will be in the same location). The bathroom is currently half tiled, and tiles can be placed on the painted walls without any need for re-plastering etc. The bathroom was done a couple of years ago by the previous owners of the house so walls are all good. I have an electrician to deal with all wiring/sockets etc. A local plumber has just quoted me £8000 (excluding bath suite/tiles etc) and told me that it will take 4 weeks and that I will not be able to use the bathroom at all for at least 1 week. Advice on the quote and length of time it would take is appreciated. Thanks. Thanks for your responses…I am in Middlesex (outskirts of NW London)

Hi mp20, The timescale for your bathroom and cost seems extremely high without seeing the job and purely as a guide a bathroom of your size normally takes me about 7-9 days and approximately £2500 plus suite and materials this includes tiling but not replastering this cant be included until tiles are removed and wall condition ascertained as for not using the bathroom we always aim to keep a toilet available at all times the only delay maybe a bath out of action but only for a day or two maximum. Hello, Get yourself a couple of quotes and never use that plumber again! £8000 labour only is just ridiculous. Bathroom prices can go in to tens of thousands depending on the materials you are choosing, as you can expect labour to be higher when fitting better quality fittings ( as more care will be needed and may even require a second pair of hands). Based on the description I have read, you should be easily able to complete the whole job with materials, plumbing, building works and electrical work for under £4000 (presuming you haven't chosen the most amazing all singing all dancing bathroom suite). You could potentially be looking at two weeks disturbance, but I would have most probably have it done in one week ( if property was not used during works) and that includes all trades complete and bathroom hand over. Hope this helps you and any other confused overseer out there. Dean Boden West Midlands, Stoke-on-Trent.

Hi I don't know where you are located but in n.ireland a quality refit with good quality sanitary ware would come in around the 4-5000 mark, one thing is correct if any tiling around wet areas then best to leave 7 days to give good time for grout and adhesive to dry, hope this helps Billy Tbr Contracts

Wow amazed how people can estimate without seeing a job. It sounds like a big job, wall to come down might need structural support? Who knows! What’s in the airing cupboard? as that may need removing and pipe work reconfigured to fit the shower? Does he need to re board the walls? ceiling? new electrics for lighting? is there a shower and a separate bath? Is the electric underlie heating? Does the floor need strengthen? are all the walls being tiled? if so what design? as herringbone is time consuming? Are there Tvs? speakers? or other trick bits being fitted like mood lighting or a floated ceiling Does the soil stack need replacing etc There are that many unknowns to this you just have to get a few quotes and see how they compare I’m sure they will all be roughly the same if quoting like for like Question if you employ someone who says 2 weeks but takes 3 who is paying for your bathroom as I doubt any trades person goes to work to pay for customers work? Get a few quotes, read reviews, look at previous work, and work with someone you get along with
