Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.14 PM

hi, we having a conservatory built with a 600mm dwarf wall.the builder has dug out the footinings 450x450mm and filled it up with 300mm of concrete. is this deep enough? I thought it should have been at least 450x 600 deep.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Morning.. conservatories do not fall under any legislation in their own right unless the spec, dimensions, or/and other criteria bring it within local authority jurisdiction, there are no set in stone parameters to follow. However that said, there are many factors to consider.. the ground conditions, proximity of any trees, the design, slab only, single skin, double skin etc., but any self respecting organisation will create more than adequate foundations for the known type of structure given the prevailing situation. But to give you some rule of thumb direction, for a 600, cavity dwarf wall, in fair ground conditions, you should really expect footings to be 600mm wide and to a trench depth of no less than 800mm with the top of the concrete a minimum of 150mm / 2 brick course below ground. Hope this helps, need any more, contact us direct. ;-)
