Can I replace an external vent pipe with an internal air admittance valve
Anonymous user 03/03/2024 - 2.39 PM
I currently have a cast iron vent pipe serving an inspection chamber which passes through the house to vent through the roof. It is very solid and all the joints are lead solder The house has been considerably extended. Currently the same inspection chamber serves two bathrooms, one upstairs and one down, with fitted air admittance valves at the end of each line. Rain can get in through the old roof vent area and work needs to be done and the area if clear would make an ideal site for solar panels. It is the flashing not the pipe that is at fault. Can an internal air admittance valve be installed instead of the exit through the roof. If not possible to replace with an air admittance valve, could I put in a new vent pipe in plastic which instead of passing through the house, would go to our garage and be placed on the inside or outside of that. The garage is about 3 metres from the inspection chamber. Graham Martin
