Ask a questionRoofing
lateral displacement because of roof

Hi , i am looking to buy a house that has had a structural survey already done. It says the internal non load bearing walls 'have allowed most of the load of the roof to be taken by the hip rafters and purlins which appear to have deflected causing a lateral thrust to the side elevation resulting in cracks and the seperation of the partition and side elevation in the back bedroom with a gap of approx 12mm which is open. He has also said the kitchen floor has dropped and needs further investigation. He has suggested 4 restraint straps between the back bedroom and landing and the same again between the bathroom and landing. This is all jargon to me and people are telling me to walk away as its structural but i love the house . im just looking for any advice as to whether this could cause further issues in the future. Its my first house purchase and i dont want to buying a money pit. Any advice would be great. Thanks
