Bay at front of property has moved
Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.13 PM
We have had a survey done on a new house and it states the following: 'Inerstory bay at front of property has moved. Possibly due to when windows were replaced. A suitable qualified and competent building contractor should investigate vertical supports to the bay and lateral restraints needed' Do you think this is a big problem / expensive problem? We are going to be looking for quotes this week and are just feeling worried about it all. Thanks in advance.
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

I've worked on a lot of houses ( 1930 s semis spring to mind ) were the widows are the structural support for the bay. So if your had the windows changed then this disturbance is the movement, initially when accroad up then when left to settle back into position. Unfortunately I remember a case where a young window fitter was killed when not supporting a bay when removing the ground floor bay window. The bay should move any further now it is supported by the new widow. But still get it checked as without seeing the job i am speculating.
