Old house. New central heating. Damp by both doors.
Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.13 PM
I have an old 1900 terraced house. I had central heating fitted in September 2013. Recently I have noticed small areas of wallpaper lifting near both external doors. I have never had a damp problem before and had a survey done 3 years ago for mortgage purposes. Is this a condensation problem? Or the central heating drawing moisture out of old brick/plaster? Any advice gratefully received.

When your house was built it used the be able to breath. Coal fire, single glazed drafty windows and no central heating and an un insulated loft. Now we have warmer houses but they can't breath. Try opening the vents ( if you have pvc window) on the windows. Or fitting an
air vent

it is impossible to say exactly what is causing your issues without actually looking at the problem areas, could be the pointing, seals around the doors, drip, roof issue, ventilation to name but a few, your best bet is post it on the site and get a local expert to have a look and see exactly what is happening.
good luck Alex

Sounds like early stages of rising damp
3 years is a long time if you have a 25yrs guaranteed DPC, its over 10percent of its lifespan
Ask for a damp survey wont cost much
Hope this helps
