what size steel would I need for supporting the upstairs flooring

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 2.38 PM

Am right in thinking that the calculations need to have council approval, thanks everyone that has responded much appreciated

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

You would need to get a structural engineer involved to calculate the loadings. This will determine the size of the steels required. Building Control will need to be involved as its a structural alteration and they will need the steel size and the bearing for the steel to be 'proved' i.e. shown the calculations that prove the steel and bearings are suitable to take the loading.

Yes you're right, calculations do need to be approved by the council. An engineer or a chartered surveyor like myself can provide these for you relatively inexpensively and quickly.
