strip of block paving to stop gravel escaping from drive
Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.13 PM
I'm making a gravel driveway and want to stop gravel escaping from the driveway by having a strip of block pavers (3 rows deep in a small hump) at the threshold with the pavement. I've seen this on many other driveways using either pavers or stone setts but am not clear on how the pavers should be bedded. Do I bed the pavers directly onto a base of lean mix concrete 100mm deep or will this not be strong enough for driving over? If so should I lay a base of stronger c20 concrete and then bed the pavers onto this using mortar? Or is there a better way?
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hello Jamie,
If you are putting block pavers as a border then they will be fine if you bed them on Mot type1 and a layer of grit sand. If you do this you need to brush kiln dry sand into the blocks to make them even more stronger. You could also bed the blocks on cement but that is a more costly option and there won't be much difference in strength. Hope I helped!
Kind regards
