What is the best way to insulate my 8x8 summerhouse?

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 2.30 PM

I've been searching online for the best advice on how to insulate my 8x8 summerhouse, and it all seams to be conflicting. So far I've decided its best to friction fit celotex boards between the batons on the walls and and ceiling (leaving a gap), and lay them directly on the floor then, then board over the whole lot with 12mm ply. My questions are: does a plastic vapour barrier need to be installed anywhere and if so where? Do i need to leave a gap between the celotex and the walls/ceiling? Is it okay to lay celotex directly on the floor and then board on top of that? It is likely I am only going to use the summerhouse for doing a bit of work at my desk and playing the drums in. Any help greatly appreciated!! Daniel

Hi, I have recently used Celotex to insulate a loft and the best advice I received was from the technical team at Celotex. My recommendation would be to give them a call and they should be able to guide you with the appropriate depth Celotex and also the best process. They also have a good website that shows some of the standard procedures. Hope that helps. Regards AVP Property Maintenance

For your roof I would advise you to consider having a warm roof fitted if the summer house has a flat roof. A correctly insulated roof will reduce heat loss dramatically. Regards Andrew @ Fibretechs - Gloucestershire

Insulate dont worry about vapour membrane if your using 12mm ply instead of plasterboard, one thing to do is ensure all the wood is treated to prevent any decay. Celotex can be placed directly onto the floor but ensure the overboards are secure as movement will degrade the celotex like a delaminated caravan floor thats spongey
