Cooker hoods with external motors

Anonymous user 01/03/2024 - 2.52 PM

Hi, I'm in the middle of refurbishing my house. My wife really doesn't like cooking smells getting around the house, so I'm looking to improve on our existing cooker hood. My understanding is that some cooker hoods have external motors. This seems ideal to me, and my thinking is to just get the most powerful motor I can (something like 1000m3/hour), run the ducting down to the kitchen, and connect it up to the chimney hood. These external motors don't seem very popular though, and I'm struggling to find much about them. They only seem to be sold with ceiling & downdraft fans, but I would want to attach it to a standard chimney style hood (because we've already got the space for that given how the cupboards are setup). Could anyone tell me why everyone isn't using these? If they significantly reduce the noise then surely that's a huge improvement? And should it be possible to just buy a new external motor and connect it up to my existing chimney hood? If there's anyone that knows how to do this in the London area I'd be happy to hear from you. Thanks

External fans are often used in commercial kitchens, should you go and adapt a general fan motor then these can become clogged up with grease vapour and overheat and catch fire, what would your insurance say, they would roll about on the floor laughing knowing they have wriggled themselves out of another claim.
