Removing parts of a steel reinforced concrete structure

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 2.30 PM

I am looking into the feasibility of converting an old industrial building into a house. The building has existing foundations with an internal concrete structure, brick walls and a flat concrete roof. A structural engineer has already given the go ahead to convert the building, indicating that it is structurally sound. Inside the building is a concrete platform that needs to be removed. This platform is a little less than 2/3 of the way up. It will be removed to construct a floor exactly half way up that spans the entire footprint of the building. I'm curious as to just how complicated and costly the job of removing this platform could be. Here is a photo of the platform that needs to be removed. For reference, the entire building is about 6.5m high, 13m wide and 12m deep: http://i.imgur.com/Hge3dgG.jpg

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

i have viewed your pic the safest and most affordable way is to place a scaffolding platform underneath supporting the concrete platform. Then expose the platform joints to the steel reinforced pillars to ensure the weight of the platform is held on the scaffolding then start braking the concrete in sections.Be aware that it needs to be supported properly so use more scaffolding rather than less its better safe than sorry. As long as the concrete platform is supported correctly by the scaffolding it is completely safe to remove do not attempt if you don't no what your doing as you could bring down that section of the building above you
