What to do with the cracks on the edge of two walls in a room, where they join.

Anonymous user 14/03/2024 - 2.36 PM

Hello Experts, Being a first time buyer of a 1930's house, I am all excited to start with some DIY in ripping up the wall papers and doing the paints (in a room for a try). After ripping off the wall paper, I noticed there is a deep crack running on the whole joint of the edge of the room. The house has undergone a double storey extension; some 35 years back; behind that wall, so could be a fallout of that, am not sure. But, where we stand I just wanted to get some guidance on what is the best way forward here? Should I get a polymer filling and stuff in with something, or scrape the plaster on the side in a V shape and re do the plaster or there is something else you all would recommend. Many thanks in advance.

Remove any loose plaster and fill using a flexible decorators caulk.

Decorators Caulk usually does the job with cracks as it is flexible. Just apply the caulk and wipe over with a slightly damp sponge to smooth. Can usually paint over within an hour
