if its an old building, N.H.L. render, natural hydraulic lime sets quicker less shrinkage. you can always paint it with a lime paint for extra protection. good luck Alex

If you are proposing using a lime render over a large area it is always best to acquire the material pre-mixed. Suppliers such as Masons Mortar in Scotland are best consulted as the background to which the materials is being applied too will greatly govern the specification. Always use a tradesperson with good experience in this field as the application and aftercare are not like the basic sand and cement practice used these days. Lime putty is a finishing coat and should not be directly applied to stone/brick. You will need a backing and setting coat recommended for the fabric the house is built with.
