Damp Proofing

Possitive pressure ventilation + fan extractor

Anonymous user 14/03/2024 - 2.36 PM

Hi there, I have some general mould growing in all over the house. In the living room in some places, inside the wardrobe in the bedroom, in the hallway in some places etc. My house is a small house with two floors (base + 1 floor) and no ventilation in place at all. I've been playing around opening the windows and it seems that the mould problem has been solved. I've came up with some solutions. To install a fan extractor with humidity tracker (possible with a heat recovery system) in the bathroom. For the rest of the house, I'm considering to install a positive general house ventilation system fit it in my loft. I'm wondering if the positive ventilation system will solve the problem in the bedroom as most of the moisture is generated during the night and the door of the room is closed. As well as if the unit is installed just near the bathroom (first floor), would it be still necessary to install the fan extractor in the bathroom? As a products, I'm looking at the HeatSava Envirovent Heat Recovery Single Room for the bathroom and at the Mr Venty Eco2 loft for the positive pressure. Thank you very much for you help

Hi I installed a nuaire piv system in my own house last year, it got air humidity down from 70%+ to around 35/40% the house now feels much warmer and no mould! Lee

Hi piv units are excellent to bring in +ive pressure therefore pushing moisture laden air outwards, some trickle vents would allow quicker egress as would an extractor fan, if i was fitting an extract in the bathroom it would be a silent continuous fan, to allow piv units to work eficiently there must be CROSS FLOW VENTILATION in the attic, however some cowboy upvc facia and soffit companies completely seal the areas preventing cross flow

A combination of positive input ventilation and extraction is a perfect combination to improve indoor air quality, it creates a breathing effect in your home, taking out the moisture laden air and bringing in fresh clean filtered air. This will help keep humidity down to a point where condensation can't form on windows and walls, and mould isn't able to grow any more.
