Basin pop-up plug

Anonymous user 01/03/2024 - 2.52 PM

The piece inside the waste pipe which connects the base of the plug stopper with the shank of the plunger has disappeared (presumably down the waste pipe). The fixing is probably 20 years old. Is this a part that can be replaced? Does the whole fitting need to be replaced? How much is this likely to cost?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

20 years old? It did well then! Sometimes you can buy, or I've even made bits to fix fittings like this. Likelihood is that you'll end up replacing it. Can you attach a picture somehow? Kyle

HI jenny, the missing part may well still be in the u bend at the bottom of the waste pipe. This can be taken apart and it may be found. The parts are easily replaced and inexpensive so should be a quick and easy job. Hope that helps. Richard

B&Q sell replacement fittings at approx £5-10. you would need to take the old one with you to make sure you get the correct diameter. Other than that, try the trap below as someone has already said.
