Lever that works bath plug is not working

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.13 PM

There is a round lever/ disc towards the top of our bath under the taps that turns to open the bath plug or plunge it down. This lever is still turning but having no affect on the bath plug so we can push it down but can only lift it up again with the aid of a screwdriver! I would like to know if this is a simple job to fix, and would I need a plumber or a handyman?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi , it sounds like either the pop up plug screw has moved in on its self and it's not popping up or the overflow turn has slackened off. There is a straight screw holding this in place , it may need tighting up with a small straight screwdriver, under the disc you will find a hole where the screwdriver needs to be put in. The other option is the plug , take it out and unscrew the bolt till it's just about at the end, there should be a locking nut that locks the bolt in place, try either option and this should fix your problem.

Your bath waste connection is either popped off or broken, these are connected from the bottom off the bath underneath to your lever/disc. These are normally replaced in my opinion as they are so cheap to buy and fit. I would recommend a plumber as they will have the correct tools to tighten the threads for a tight seal.

If you take your plug out u may find an adjustable screw underneath it. If u undo this screw slightly you may find that this resolves your problem. If it does not u may require a new pop up waste kit fitting to your bath, and that would be a job for a plumber. I hope u find this useful.
