How do I remove/hide textured wallpaper on the ceilings?
Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 2.38 PM
Most of the rooms in my Victorian terrace have textured wallpaper covering the ceilings which I would like to remove. The thing is this could be hiding a multitude of sins so need to know how best to deal with it, e.g. wallpaper stripping and skim plaster if necessary or plasterboard over the lot and skim plaster or what would you suggest? As ever cost is important so which method would give the best value? thanks.

How old is the house? before you strip anything check to see if the ceiling is Lathe and plaster if so you may bring the plaster off in large chunks when you remove the paper! Then a skim will not be possible, its either overboard or pull it all down(very messy job) and then re plaster board.
hope this helps

The best way to deal with the problem would be to strip the ceilings. if the textured paper was covering a multitude of sins then one option is to skim the ceilngs. Another would be to make good as much as possible and then line the ceilings with 1200 or even 1500 gram lining paper.

Strip the existing ceiling paper and check condition..if very badly cracked then
the best solution would be to either overboard or skim this would guarantee
a perfect finish for future decoration
