How much should turfing an area, replacing 5 fence panels and laying a 4x3m concrete base cost?

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 2.56 PM

We live in South East London and have a garden that needs work doing to it. Firstly there are 5 fence panels that need replacing at the back of the garden. Due to height difference with garden behind it will probably need a couple of slats at the bottom to make the fence higher. Secondly the garden needs de-weeding, leveling and then turfing. There is a gentle slope which we don't mind but need to get rid of bumps and unevenness. The garden is roughly 10m in width and 14m in length. Lastly, as we wan't to install a log cabin at the bottom of the garden we need to put in a concrete base of approx 4x3m. For this type of job, what sort of ball park figure should we be expecting?

Hi Birdie Well I'm based in Manchester so the prices may vary. 1. The fencing, this depends on certain factors like access, waste amounts etc. I've done many fencing jobs so based on what I think the job would be I would quote in the region of £700. this would include 2 end posts and inters, with 2 base boards on each section and 4ft high waney to make a total height of 6ft. I would use high quality "Postcrete" for the posts, others use dry cement and hardcore mix, this is risky as dry ground won't set the mix and posts can move before they do. Price £700 The turf is easy, I charge £10 per mtr plus machine hire, plus waste. From what you have said I would guess a reasonable price would be £1600. However The way I lay is to a high quality. Rotovate, screed and roll the ground, add rootzone mix to 2" height mixed with a nutrient and roll again, then lay the turf. Others won't and you could get the job done cheap for about £1000. My price £1600 As for the base this would take around 1.5 cubic mtrs of concrete. To do the job properly you would excavate the area, lay a geotextile membrane, create a treated wood frame, fill with 75mm of hardcore (MOT) and compact then fill with concrete to the height of the lawn. You could get it done on the cheap for about £300 but that may be wasted money. Personally I would quote about £650 and do the job properly. My price £650 So the total cost for all the work, based on easy access and No massive trees where the fence is going etc. My price would be £2950 Hope this helps Stuart GMBS
