Would I be able to have a previously painted house rendered?
Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.13 PM
I have a 3 bed semi detached, 1950s ex council house which the previous owner has covered in masonry paint, most of which is peeling off in chunks as it's very old and leaving the exterior in a very sorry state. Would it be possible to render over the house to make it more presentable? If so, what would be the typical price quoted for the 3 exterior walls?
Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

You will be best taking off the paint before rendering as the weight of the sand and cement will peel it off bringing your render with it, id suggest sand blasting or chemical clean first to remove , then use rendaid on walls for a key for new render, prices are dependant on what materials you want to put on really.

Hi stevecal.
If the render is sound , there would be no need to replace it ! A competent decorator could advise you on this by looking at it .
If the render was to need replacing , then the only proper way to do this would be to remove the existing render back to the brickwork and re render . This generally works out around £35 per metre squared plus the cost of scaffold and rubbish removal !
Hope this helps ?
