What should I budget for repainting our house?

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 2.56 PM

Hi there. I'd really appreciate some help in budgeting for the repainting of our house, and whether we can afford to get it all done at once, or if we can should do each room individually. I've include the dimension below. If you could include the price for preparation and painting that would be great. I was planning on supplying the paint. 1) Bedroom 1 = 3 metres X 3.3 metres walls and ceiling, as well as skirting boards, window surround, radiator and door. 2) Bedroom 2 = 4 metres X 3.5 metres walls and ceiling as well as skirting boards, ceiling cornicing, window surround, radiator and door. 3) Dining Room = 3 metres X 3.3 metres walls and ceiling as well as skirting boards, ceiling cornicing, window surround, radiator and door. 4) Lounge = 4 metrics x 2.9 metres walls and ceiling as well as skirting boards, ceiling cornicing, window surround, radiator and door. Thanks in advance for your time.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

1 day per room you must be bumping woodwork not undercoating .If you want a proper job doing i would budget double what has been said to many variables to be considered my advise is get 3 quotes.what i will say is it will be more cost effective to get 2 or more rooms done at a time dont listen to this 1 day per room nonsense you will only end up disappointed with the finished article.

Far too many variables to estimate a price. Are all rooms empty? Can they all be accessed together or do they need to be done one by one. Those things make a massive difference. If I do a end of tennanncy for a landlord then the price comes right down for multiple rooms as its empty, but if the house is being lived in and rooms can only be accessed one by one then the price will be what the price is. Also if you are supplying the paint, don't try to skimp on paint as it will only take more time and end results won't look as good, I always like to supply materials in my quote as I buy quality paint that I know what it is capable of doing. Nothing worse than a customer supplying poor quality paint to save money. Only ends up costing the tradesman time which is money. Good luck with everything

Hi, The preparation is the main bit that any painter & decorator has to get right. If not the end result will be horrible. By what you are saying I would allow 1 to 1 and half days of prepwork, (clearing work area, sanding, sugar soap, repairs to walls and ceiling, removing radiators, door handles etc) Then paint ceiling, walls and woodwork in that order. Each room should take no more than a day. So in total you are looking on average £125.00 a day not including paint. 1 day to a day and half for prep and 4 rooms to be painted. Approx 5-6 days work depending on the plaster on the walls and the colour that you already have to the colour you are wanting to paint. I suggest Valspar Premium Paint. It has a primer and top coat wich will reduce the labour costs and time sd it it easy to spread and only needs one coat. So in total you are looking between £625 and £750 plus paint. Hope this Helps Regards Anthony
