Driveways & Paving

Can I get a crazy paving repair done?

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.12 PM

I have a large driveway for 3-4 cars. It is crazy paved and then edged with a block brick boarder on to flower beds. We do 3 point turns on our driveway so we don't have to reverse onto main road. Where the blocks have no resistance they are sinking into the flowerbeds and this movement along with our 3 point turns are gradually breaking up our crazy paving. I would estimate that 30% of our drive is completely broken up. We can't afford to replace the drive but would having the flower beds removed and filled with concrete or even crazy paved and the broken paving re set fix our problem? Also, is this repair going to cost almost the same as getting a new drive (we were quoted £9k including rebuilding a wall). Any advise would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks

From the sounds of it the bricks weren't built on a strong enough base or benched this when a strong mix of sharp sand and cement is placed behind the bricks at an angle. I'm sure it could be repaired and your wall rebuilt,my only concern is the fact the crazy paving is breaking up it depends where?im guessing it's at the edges? Hope this helps

It shouldn't cost anything like £9k to repaire your drive and there is no reason why you can't keep your flower beds to stop it from happening again in the future, just make sure whatever edging you choose to retain the drive has enough concrete behind it to stop anymore linear movement. However if you do want to extend the crazy paving right up to the boundary it might be difficult trying to match up with whatever flags have been used originally. You will deffinatley be able to see where the new meets the old unless you take all the drive up and blend the flags in evenly.
