Plastering & Rendering

K-rend is it worth the extra money on a 145m2 area.

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 2.30 PM

Hi I have a detached house with old cracked sand and cement render. I have been look at K-rend as a coloured alternative, I love the smooth finished look of the k-rend. The render covers 145m2 and access is available all round the house for towers or scaffolding. My big question is K-rend worth the extra money. What can I expect to pay for taking off the old and replacing with K-rend? Not so many plasterers will do K-rend living in North Wales. Costs do see to vary massively when looking online from £5000-£15000? Any advice our other recommended products would be great. Thanks

We use K Rend and we find it to be a more superior product to sand and cement render. The main benefit of using it is that it is maintenance free once done. I done my house 9 years ago with it and it still looks as good as new. I used it recently on various clients houses and extensions and the feedback from the clients has been excellent, If the old render is cracking I would strongly recommend removing the old render first back to bare brickwork. You will then need to apply a slurry mix to the brickwork to ensure there is sufficient key to the existing brickwork and that you do not get LIVE render again when it completed. I would also suggest getting a scaffolding company in to errect a complete scaffold around the complete house with fully boarded lifts. (Ask them to ensure the scaffolding is kept 4 - 6 inches off the walls that are to be rendered as the renderer will require this amount of space to "scrape back" the render to give the finish. One other thing to consider is once the existing render is removed you clear it away from the ground floor especially against the wall as you could end up with the render being short once the scaffold is struck and the old render cleared. You should expect to pay between £55 - £70/m2 for the render in London but labour should be less in Wales. We offer it to our clients at the same price as sand & cement render with a painted finish as we believe it to be beneficial to the client in the long run and also when we look back at of work portfolio years later it still looks as fantastic as when it was first completed. You will need to add the labour element for the removal of the existing render and the costs for the disposal too, along with the scaffolding costs. I hope that helps. Regards, Lee McGinley

k rend is worth the money as its maintenance free no need to paint as you trowel in colours its highly waterproof and its very unusual for krend to crack as you place anti crack mesh in the scratch coat its very expensive but worth while in long run

Hya k rend is one of the best products on the market as the last gent wrote make sure mesh is put in the base coat around the whole house . Also just to make you aware the stuff does stain i.e around downpipes or if you trees near by. It can be cleaned /jet washed would advise getting it done once a year if you do go ahead with the krend
