Damp Proofing

Has anyone used Schrijver System to deal with Damp Proofing on solid brick wall (not cavity wall)?

Anonymous user 09/03/2024 - 2.30 PM

I bought my ground floor flat last year knowing it had a Rising Damp issue. There is visible marks where the plaster is cracking in small areas. There is also black mould growing in other small areas when furniture is close to the wall. (only one area and it's been wiped away) I have had conflicting surveys from 3 different DPC companies all assuring me I need different works carried out based on different beliefs. The 4th and final survey was carried out by Schrijver System. (Not so much a survey, just reassuring the system can be used on my property). The salesmen offered a Life time guarantee for the work (which can obviously only be proved not to be working by them, which will be hard to prove otherwise). I just really want something to work. I'm not a tight arse, I'm willing to pay what's required to get the job done. I just want the best job done for my home. I didn't have a very good feeling from the DCP surveyors but I did have a good feeling about the Schrijver System. Just a little concerned that people suggest they are not BRE approved in the UK. If you have any experience please let me know the best solution for me.

this type of property is a solid brick building built with lime mortar, plastered with lime plaster and painted with lime paint these all allow the building to breathe, these types of buildings do not suffer from rising damp. over the years they may have been re plastered, externally brickwork re-pointed with a cement based pointing.rendered, painted the outside ground level may have been raised or a path brought right up to the wall theses are most likely your cause for dampness rather than a damp proof solution look for the cause, solve this and your dampness will go away. look for a builder who is used to working with traditional materials, lime mortars, renders, plaster. let him have a look and see exactly what is causing your issue. all damp proof solutions work in this type of property for a short time but seldom work long term. good luck Alex
