Damp Proofing

Plasterboard sides of windows getting damp, and growing mold?

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 2.56 PM

On the sides of my bedroom window the plasterboard is damp and is now getting mold. I have cleaned it with bleach and water but because its damp so it just keeps growing back. I have checked the outside and its all sealed and don't know why its getting so damp? Any advise would be great, thanks. There two main reasons why your plasterboard would be damp leading to mold then developing. The first is that water is getting in around your window and even though it might look OK, the slightest of gaps can draw water in. Another reason could be condensation building up on the cold walls when your heating is on, especially during winter. The best way to tell which one of these it could be is just how damp is the plasterboard? If it is damp to the point that it is going soft and breaking up, then water is getting in. If its condensation it should improve as temperatures rise over the next couple of months. Hope that helps.

1. water drawing in through poor seals 2. cold bridging in top corners at lintel areas 3. if condensation then should also condense onto glass 4. no trickle vents in window frames hope this helps for further info ring me
