Fixing a ceiling maid where there is a lowered ceiling?

Anonymous user 2 September 2011 - 12.55 PM

I have a high ceiling above the half landing in my house which used to have a ceiling maid clothes airer attached. When the house was replastered this ceiling was lowered by a couple of inches and a false ceiling put up and plastered. I would like to get the ceiling maid put back up, but have been advised it will now be tricky with the lowered ceiling as the airer would need to be fixed into the beam. Is this a job that a handyman could do, or would I need another more specialised trade? I can't do the job myself because I'm heavily pregnant, and in any case not very handy, and the ceiling is about 14ft above the half landing. Thank you for the answer below, but I really need to know which trade to advertise the job to on here.

I should ask a carpenter to install it put it up on mybuilder.com as a job if it has a loft over the top you could have a full noggin /timber fitted across 2 roof trusses and a full hook with safety catch bolted through sounds a bit ott but it would be safe for you and the new Baby. This is similar to supports we install for heavy lighting such as Del Boy chandeliers (smile) hope this helps Kelvin if you like this answer then hit the like button

Hello Joanna. Any good handy man should be more than capable of fitting the clothes maid Back to the lowered ceiling. Just bear in mind the weight of the maid and the amount of damp clothes you intend to put on it as you don't know the size of timbers used to lower the ceiling or how well they are fixed. Hope this helps Good luck with the new arrival :-) Regards Chris
