Door closers do I need them by law

Anonymous user 08/03/2024 - 2.30 PM

I stay in a council house that has a second level and additional set of stair that lead to a large attic bedroom. My daughter sevared her finger last year as a result of self closing door closers fitted to all the doors in the house. My husband has since removed them now they want to put them back on and I am not sure legally if I have to. Any help would be great.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi Suzanne, Legally it is their property, and they have to permit any changes...so you need to put them back on. with regards to the little fingers issue, you could insist that they install hydraulic closers that close to a point, and then stop/soften, rather than Perco closers that are concealed, but close at force. You could also install finger screens to stop the little ones getting their fingers caught. Regards Simon
