Replace diaphragm or diverter valve?
Anonymous user 14/03/2024 - 2.36 PM
Hi Currently my boiler does not supply hot water despite heating working perfectly. So I called out a local plumber to check the problem. He said diverter valve should be replaced and it costs about 300~340 pounds including parts and fitting. I was a bit shocked by the number so did some research and found that just replacing diaphragm might solve this kind of problem. I wonder if there is any way to check if the problem is due to diaphragm or diverter valve myself. And I also wonder it the quote is reasonable. Thank you

Phew seems a bit steep pricewise,Diaphram pass diverter valves normally have a 7yearish life span.To me it would be wise to change the whole unit as it needs to be stripped out of the boiler to change the Diaphram and at times they can fail,so you could be back to square one.Go on the internet with the boiler model and see how much they cost then put £100 on top max for fitting, lets keep them honest cant see it being more than £260

You can check by just holding the pipes coming out of the diverter valve, if hot you know its working & vice versa if cold. Yes, changing the diaphragm can help, but sometimes there are other moving parts that maybe ceased, in which case it is sometimes prudent just to change the whole diverter valve. Unfortunately you are not allowed to repair it because it can be very dangerous if not fitted correctly.
