Shower Bar Valve - What stops the water going behind the tiles?

Anonymous user 08/03/2024 - 2.30 PM

Hi. I'm about to fit a bar valve shower unit. I've got the hot and cold pipes coming through the wall in the correct position. I've got to drill a 45mm hole in the middle of a tile for the pipes to poke through, so I can attach the bar valve to the pipes. When the shower is in use (or being cleaned), what's to prevent water running down the wall, and getting behind the pipe connectors and through the 45mm hole in the tile? All I have is a chrome finishing 'conical' plate to hide the 45mm hole, but I can't see this as being water tight? http://www.victoriaplumb.com/Showers/Thermostatic-Shower-Valve-Sets/Aria-Round-Head-Shower-Riser-System_855.html TIA, Matt

Grout all around the holes like the rest of the grouting, then put some ct1 sealent around the pipes poking through the tiles then fit covers and shower bar.

As long as you have the right centres and the right length of thread potruding from the tiles to enable you to make the the shower valve on with the conicle caps. Then there is no reason why the excess hole cannot be grouted or silicon sealed to make it water tight. Hope this helps.

You are obviously something to do with our trade - contact manufacturers - not us.
