Pine will age to a darker colour overtime . So it depends what colour you require now. Oil and wax products will darken the wood straight away. Wax is less durable since it will dull and stain if water splashes on it.Oil is durable and may need recoating after a few years as the wood dries out with indoor ambient temperatures. Acrylic clear matt would give a nuetral finish that would be hard wearing. It also comes in a variety of colours to suit your taste. The easest to apply is the oil as it does not raise the grain. Followed by the varnish all of which can be applied by brush. Thats it in a nut shell.

We would recommend an Osmo product, either their Door Oil which gives a satin finish or the Wood Wax. We have used the door oil on oak doors and it really brought out the grain and gave it a lovely finish. I would suggest finding your local supplier and then they can advise you on the best way to apply it (most osmo products can be applied with a cloth or brush) and may have sample pots available.
