Paint flaking off bathroom ceiling
Anonymous user 14/03/2024 - 2.36 PM
I had my bathroom redone completely under a year ago , that included new plaster boards. My ceiling got new plaster boards and plastered, then painted. Over the last few months my ceiling was getting covered in black mold. This was treated with bleach and washed off. Then we used a bathroom five year guarrente paint to prevent mold. Within 5 days the paint is pealing away.

Most likely cause is that the painter did not apply a mist coat first but neat paint combined with poor ventilation. In regards to the mould it is most likely due to poor ventilation which is essential in bathrooms. I would suggest installing a thermostatic controlled extractor fan. Regards Clive Griffin

You can not paint over bleach or soap based cleaner it should have been sugersoped washed down and rubbed with sandpaper .
The best way to deal with mould is to use a fungaside wash.
You will now need to scrape and sand back to first coat mist coat if applied.then repaint with a quality acrylic based paint.
