Correct way to fit a stair carpet

Anonymous user 06/03/2024 - 2.31 PM

I am looking to fit a new stair carpet fully fitted wall to wall, I have fitted other carpets in standard rooms quite well so want to have a go. My stairs are plain just straight down nothing fancy. I just want to know- do professional carpet fitters make a template of the stair carpet first such as the old carpet then cut a long peice off that, ? or - do they cut the carpet biggar that the width of the stairs i,e 2/3 inches either side fit/stretch it to the gripper rods all the way up, then trim the carpet each side as they go along like fitting a regular room carpet?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

No templates or old carpet needed, just transfer exact width of stair nosing directly on to back of new carpet mark this measurement down the carpet normally 4-5 mtrs, then using a straight edge then cut .

dont try this yourself get a pro in as if its not secured correctly it can be very dangerous. you need to know about pile direction as this affects wear, also there are certaint british standards that need to be adhered to.
