Removal Of Old Paint on Door Frames

Anonymous user 06/03/2024 - 2.31 PM

I have a circa 1930's property, which has door frames engrained white gloss paint[over time!]. Is there a product out there [with hard work, Im sure]which will eradicate this so as they can be stained. I asked this as I would like to purchase wood doors[such as oak or pine] and I have new wood skirting boards and architrave?I have used Nitromors to no avail.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

why don't you get a heater gun and look on YouTube on how to strip them using the heater gun. also there`s another solution but it will require you to take the door frames out and dip them but obviously you do not want that. obviously you could use a chemical stripper such as B&Q Nirtro Mors Value 4 litre ... but if you look for more chemical ways there are but it takes ages.

In my professional opinion I would use an electric heat gun, which has lots of varied tools for all shapes of architraves etc.... Use with caution as this piece of equipment can burn wood easily. Also could potentially be a fire hazard in the wrong hands. Hope this information is of some use to you. Kind regards. Cee Gee P&D.

would agree with previous advice.futher warnings with a heat gun are that burning off can be fairly ruthless in that it takes off surrounding surface coatings the bits you dont want to remove.once burnt off you may find paint deeply ingrained in the wood, including filla, i think to succeed be prepared to use hot air gun, possible machanical sander, scraping with a cabinate scraper and plenty of rubbing down by hand
