ROOF CONVERSION AT A REASONABLE PRICE

Anonymous user 14/03/2024 - 2.36 PM

We currently have a lean to orangery (4yrs old, installed by clearview), it has a glass roof, i want to change this to a solid tiled roof with a vaulted plastered ceiling inside. I have had a couple of quotes with this lightweight tiled roof/plastered inside of around £9000.00. Can i just put anormal tiled roof on? which i should think is a lot cheaper. Unlike a conservatory my orangery has brick pillars in between the doors and windows. Can anybody help.

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Yes you can literally take of your existing roof and replace with a traditional felted, lathed and tiled roof. If done by a decent, competent roofer the new timber ring beam and wall plate would support the weight of itself. The frames and pillars are merely there for it to sit on. And £9000 is extortionate, i could reroof a semi detached house twice for that! Also be aware that having a solid roof will cut off a lot of natural light to both the conservatory and the house.

So long as you use a product of sufficient strength to span between the brick pillars ie:- steel beams, you can construct a traditional style tiled roof. Pete
