Plumbing

New mega flow heating system being installed but found 15mm input.. expansion tank suggested.

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.12 PM

I have paid for a new megaflow system to be installed in a renovation but the plumber has just found we only have a 15mm input which I'm being told will not work with the megaflow system. I have been told I have 2 options:- a) Dig up our driveway to the mains and then replace with a 22mm pipe. ** This is too expensive so avoiding this option if I can. b) Add an expansion tank. My first question is whether the expansion tank will give the same effect as a 22mm pipe would directly to the megaflow? Additionally, what roughly would you expect the extra cost of adding an expansion tank to be as the quote I have been give seems astronomical. From what I understand of the job... it seems to be a little extra piping, an expansion tank and a day and half of labour? It could be correct but I have no idea? (This is a four bed house around 2500sqft).

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

hi 15mm pipe inlet is not the problem and 22mm pipe is not the answer. All you need to the correct pressure inlet. Its possible to have 4 bar pressure inlet on 15mm which would be reduced anyway by Pressure Reducing Valve to 3 bar and 1 bar pressure on 22mm which may not work. So the answer is first check the pressure/flow rate first.
