installation of towel rail

Thanks to all that have kindly answered my previous questions. Very helpful advice. Have another ? if I may. Having a heated towel rail put in and I think it has a thermostatic valve which is ok but when we first moved in none of the house rads had thermostatic valves on so we had them done but we were told that 1 rad must not have one on (can't remember the reason why now) but we chose the bathroom. we have a vented system with hot water tank in spare room airing cupboard & cold water tank in loft & had we known how warm the spare room gets (meaning rad is always off) then we would have chosen this rad to be the 1 without thermostatic valve. My question is if the towel rad has 1 would this cause problems with our system if the bedroom 1 is not used or do we need to change bedroom to non thermostatic valve. Also our boiler heats our water separately to heating, I.e separate on/off on timer stat.so would this mean we could drain down heating to do towel rad but still have hot water or does the whole thing need to be switched off. Thanks in advance.

Hi Angela, Firstly the reason that 1 radiator is required to have no thermostatic valves is so that there is always a connection between the flow from the boiler to the return to the boiler, if all thermostatic valves shut together then the pump would be pushing against all shut and burn out as well as damaging the boiler. We recommend that the radiator with no thermostatic valves on is the one closest to the thermostat, so that when temperature is achieved the boiler is turned off electrically. We often install Towel Heaters on the Hot water loop, rather than the central heating loop, then when you heat the water, you warm the towels. Hope this is of help Simon
