Damp on walls and mould on clothes?

Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.12 PM

Hi there..we moved Into our house in July, when I was pregnant. I just went to try on some jeans, and they had mould on them. They are stored in a built in cupboard by an outside wall. We moved all the clothes and there's bits of damp along that wall. Nothing came up in any of our surveys, and the outside wall looks sounds, but unsure as its rendered.... Any ideas what we can do, or what we have to do to sort this? Apologies from a neurotic mum!!! Ps bub sleeps in this room,!!!

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

We deal with a lot of properties where penetrating damp is an issue. It is useful to understand if your property is of a solid wall construction. If so it is possible that the weather has been driving moisture into the solid walls. This can then create damp patched on the interior of the property and mould in confined spaces. If it is this then no amount of vents inside the house will stop moisture penetrating into the property. The solution would be something like a breathable resin coating on the outside wall to stop any further ingress but allowing the walls to breathe and dry out. As I mentioned this is mainly a solid wall construction problem but it has been known to happen on cavity walls if they have been previously filled with the foam style filling causing a bridge between the cavities. I hope this is of some help.

air circulation! you need vents in the cupboard top and bottom basically the hot air from inside your home is condensing in the cold cupboard. open drip seals in your windows to allow circulation trough your home.
