Is there such a thing as an inspector for work that's been done

Anonymous user 23 February 2024 - 2.30 PM

I've had a builder for 7 moths and I've dismissed him Saturday just gone. My house got flooded and he had to re build 3 rooms kitchen sitting room and small wc. On inspection I have found 87 things wrong hence why I dismissed him after 7 months (it's been a struggle). I've not paid he's final balance as I need to work out how much money to give as on qoutes he has added things like reinforcement for sitting room floor £700 but lifting floor boards up there is no reinforcement or underlay as quoted. Help please

Was building control involved in the works carried out. Sound a bit suspect to me, my advice would be to withhold any monies for now, Get a Quantity Surveyor out to assess whats been done, and whats been done thats not to satisfaction, what needs doing. All these works can be assessed and priced for by your Q/S or even a good builder.

Sounds like you need to go trading standards right away, take photos of all the things you are not happy with and make up a file, how much youve paid whats outstanding etc, dont let this guy get away with it, act fast

You could pay another builder to carry out an assesment or contact trading standards. If you are not 100% happy with your builders work do not pay him.

if you have been quoted and charged for things that have not been done i would be worried was structual work of any kind out, if so a building inspection should have been carried out by the council to check everything meets regs and safty regards to the remaining bill if you are unhappy get three other quotes done regarding finshing that needs doing any good trades man will pick up straight away if there are any major problems that need sorting out then armed with expert opinions and quotations done you will be in a better position to talk to the origional builder and come to a fair resolvement or if the works is really not up to scratch then you have the ammo to refuse payment hope this helps
