Urgent Advice on a Tradesman Tiling a New Bathroom
Anonymous user 06/03/2024 - 2.30 PM
Hi need some urgent advice please, we are having a new bathroom fitted with new tiling. My concern is that the person doing the job has started tiling from our old bath (which is still plumbed in) up the wall already when our new bath (which is sitting in another room) has not been fitted yet and is quite a bit deeper i.e.taller than the old. Am I wrong to think that he should have fitted new bath first and then put tiles flush with the top rather than fitting the new bath half way up and against the tile. Thanks in advance

Hi Angela
You are exactly right !
The new bath should be fitted and plumbed ,
Generally a bead of silicone is then applied where the bath meets the wall and then the new tiles fitted around the bath . When grouting it is good practice to leave the joint between the bath and bottom row of tiles un grouted and when the grout has set fill the bath with water before the silicone seal is applied between the bath and wall ! When the silicone has cured , empty the bath .This will settle the bath in and guarantee a leak free seal .
Tiling the walls before fitting the bath is not good practice !
Hope this helps
Regards.Nat.

The new bath most definitely should have been fitted it could be different size for a start different shape that would affect cuts and other setting out issues aswell as makeing it more difficult to seal around
