Do I need to remove metal flue before bricking up fireplace
Anonymous user 06/03/2024 - 2.30 PM
I would like to close off a fire place, but it has a metal flue in place from the now redundant and removed gas fire. Having read around the subject I am aware it will need ventilation by means of an air brick and capped at chimney end. What I would like to know is if the metal flue should be removed before I have it bricked up or is it ok just to leave it in place? Many thanks in advance for any replies. Irene

Hi Irene I always tell my customers to remove liner if you are closing of opening to a fireplace and put in air vent and on the outside of chimney
Stack have a chimney pot fitted and a stainless steel cowl fitted
To let the chimney vent and the pot & cowl will stop rain and birds getting into
The chimney
Chimney pot £28
Cowl. £38
Labour £35 if your local and with in 5miles
Hope this helps thanks DSL
