Tiling

tiling onto gypsum plasterboard behind log burning stove

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 2.55 PM

can you put slate tiles directly onto a gypsum plasterboarded wall behind a wood burning stove or in time will the heat will make the tiles fall off the wall? Do the tiles need to be fixed to fireboard?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

I would suggest you use fireboard and make sure the adhesive you use is a powdered flexible one (Not Ready Mixed), I have previously stuck granite to a fire surround with flexi adhesive and stayed in place fine with an open fire but just don't thinks the plasterboard would be up to the job.

I would not advise using plasterboard,it would be better to use 12mm cement board.
