Why do you need filler piece against wall in a kitchen?

Anonymous user 23/02/2024 - 2.55 PM

My proposed kitchen run is tight. i am thinking of getting an Ikea kitchen and the suggest leaving a 5cm filler gap between the wall and the side of the tall cabinet, is this absolutely necessary or is there a way to get around this?

Are you a tradesperson and able to answer this question?

Hi there, i hope i can be of any help. I would say it depends on situation. They may require a 50mm filler panel, this could be due to a number of things i.e radiator, doorway, pipes etc. It would be best to get your kitchen installer to assess and measure your desired plan and check if this can be done. In some cases you can get away with as little as 20mm filler peice. Hope that helps. Regards Irfan @ EKB Group

If you do not then your handle will hit the wall and the door will not fully open, a fitted kitchen 9 times out of 10 will have fillers and you do not notice then if done well.
