Cutting cornice to fit upward sloping wall
Anonymous user 28/02/2024 - 3.11 PM
Hi I have a small upslope to fit coving to and have watched a number of videos on line but they all use a power mitre saw (DeWalt) with angle fixes on the drive etc. I have no such luxury and only have a saw / mitre block and a bit of an understanding of how to go about doing the job. I'm not sure of the angle of the slope but wanted to know, with my basic tools, how best to tackle this job. Can someone help?

Hi there, lets see if i can be of any help for you. What you need to do is cut a small peice of coving around 300mm and hold the peice in the desired upslope angle and draw a pencil line at the top and bottom. Now repeat this on the opposits side of the angle. You should now have 4 lines where the coving is going. The 2 lines will interlink at the top and then the bottom. Now cut the required lengths and hold in place starting with either left or right peice. Now where the points meet is where you will mark the coving. Draw your line on the coving by connecting the two points together and now use mitre block to stabilise the coving. Now cut using saw following the line and angle. Repeat for next peice. Then apply both peices to desired place. Finish off using easi fill to fill your joint and neaten up. Hope that helps.

Without getting too technical you could use some offcuts to practise getting the right angle, you will struggle without an adjustable angled saw though because mitre blocks are only designed for 90" corners
